Zachary Deyoung Death, Obituary – On October 17, 2022, Zachary O. DeYoung, who resided in Hebron, Indiana, passed away at the age of 88. His children, Kevin R. (Julie) DeYoung, Kathy R. Micka, and Kerry R. (Kathy) DeYoung, as well as his three surviving spouses, all outlived him: Ashley M. (Allen) Rhodes, Abbey M. (Patrick) Miller, Ali M. DeYoung, Amy M. (Jake) Eppolito, Lisa (Dennis Healy) Micka, Michael Micka, Zachary (Brie) DeYoung, and Emily (Alex) Cooper; Ashley M. (Allen) Rhodes, Abbey M. (Patrick) Miller, Ali M.

DeYoung, Amy M. (Jake) Eppolito; great-grand Mary Katherine DeYoung (née Fickle), who was married to Roger, passed away before him, as did his parents, Otto and Florence DeYoung, Jr., and his brother, John “Jody” DeYoung. At Demotte High School, Roger participated in both the track and football programs. He was known across the state of Indiana as an outstanding hurdler. As a result of his success in the high hurdles competition in 1952, he was awarded a track scholarship to Purdue University.

After being married in 1954, Roger and Mary made their home in Hebron. The three children that Roger and Mary had were named Kevin, Kathy, and Kerry. Up to the year 1983, Roger was employed by the Budd Corporation in Gary, Indiana, serving as a Planning Supervisor. The company went out of business in 1983. In the city of Hebron, Roger and Mary Young were the owners and operators of both DeYoung’s Liquors and the Hebron Dairy Queen.

Roger was a big sports fan and like to watch a variety of games, including basketball, football, baseball, golf, and horse racing. In the state of Indiana, Roger was a basketball official for all three levels of competition: high school, collegiate, and semi-professional. He was selected to serve as a referee for seven of the state finals at the Indiana High School State Championship games.

In addition to being a member of the board of directors for the Indiana High School Basketball Hall of Fame, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. In addition to this, Roger was a longtime participant in the Lake County Officials Association. Roger was a devoted golfer who competed in many golf leagues in the area. He was a scratch golfer for a significant portion of his life. In addition to that, he enjoys going to the races. Mary passed away in 1999, which was two years prior to Roger’s passing.

A few years later, Carol Phillips, who resides in Hebron, came to be a friend of his. They had a good time traveling to see horse races in different parts of the country and spending time on Table Rock Lake in Branson, Missouri. On Friday, October 21, 2022, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, friends and family will have the opportunity to pay their respects to the deceased at Geisen Funeral Home & Cremation Services, located at 624 N. Main Street, Hebron, Indiana 46341. The funeral services will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022 at 5:00 PM at the Funeral Home, and Reverend Wayne Williams will preside over the ceremony.
