Tina Rountree, her sister, is the proprietor of a women’s clinic in Houston, and she is 52 years old. She is currently awaiting trial in Harris County on a charge of tampering with evidence related to the case.
A conversation that took place on Friday between Rountree and a judge in Virginia named L.A. Harris Jr. revealed that Rountree asked for clemency and stated that she had been a wonderful mother to her three children, according to the prosecutor Wade Kizer. “There are no winners in this situation.” Harris acknowledged that the children’s lives will never be the same after seeing the brutal murder of their father and decided to go through with the jury’s recommendation and impose the maximum sentence. Rountree has a month to submit an appeal to the court.
On October 30, Fredric Jablin, age 52, who had been divorced from Rountree since 2002 after 19 years of marriage, was shot as he stepped into the yard of his Richmond house to collect a newspaper. The shooting occurred before dawn on that day.
“I would say that there are no winners in this case,” Kizer stated. “On the one side, you had a famous university professor and father who was taken from you. On the other hand, you have a situation in which a woman is going to prison for a very, very long time, and you have three children who have effectively lost both of their parents. They are doomed to endure anguish for the rest of their lives. Jablin’s brother, who resides in northern Virginia, is the legal guardian of the children, who range in age from nine to fifteen. Friday was the only day that defense attorney Murray Janus could not be reached for comment. Children dozing off within the house During the trial that took place earlier this year, the prosecution contended that Rountree had murdered her ex-husband in order to win custody of their children and collect $200,000 in life insurance money. At the time, the youngsters were sound sleeping at Jablin’s house.
It was established through testimony and evidence that Rountree, who relocated to Houston after the conclusion of her divorce proceedings, made flight reservations to Richmond under her sister’s name. Despite Rountree’s testimony that she had remained in Houston during the day of the murder, data from her cellular telephone suggested she was in Richmond at the time. Rountree wrote a letter to the Houston Chronicle while she was incarcerated in which she maintained her innocence and argued that she and her ex-husband were now working together in a civil manner to raise their children. The letter was published in the Houston Chronicle. According to what she shared, the children were set to spend the summer at her residence in Kingwood.
