Paul Wachowiak was born to Irvin and Helen (Manuszak) Wachowiak on March 19, 1940. He was very proud of his Polish ancestry and was raised in Toledo’s Lagrange Street neighborhood. He belonged to the St. Hedwig’s Parish. After Central Catholic High School, he attended Davis College to earn a business degree in 1958. He worked as a tank operator in the Army Reserve. He was a dock supervisor at General Mills for 30 years.I regret to inform you that our classmate, Wachowiak, died away today. I hear there will be no visitation, but I will report if a memorial ceremony is held. He cared deeply for his family and friends. He enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s athletic activities and was quite pleased of their achievements. He radiated pride when he was with his family, especially his son and daughter, whom he adored. He had a sweet, pleasant grin that put you at rest. He was regarded as a gentle giant, an easygoing personality whose wit made others smile and laugh.
Throughout the years of his and his wife’s health issues, he had a profound appreciation for the sacrifice and care his wife provided him. Paul bowled at Jugg’s Bowling Alley for 50 years. On February 27, 2010, he bowled a perfect game. He had a soft spot in his heart for Silver Lake in Michigan’s Irish Hills, where he and Dorothy spent 55 years enjoying their vacation home and creating lifelong friends. Paul enjoyed his quiet time by reading, solving crossword puzzles, and watching television, particularly sports.
He supported the Detroit Tigers, Pistons, and Lions. Paul loved food and liked a good supper. His family is appreciative for the many good years he spent with them. His wife, Dorothy; son, Paul (Carrie) Wachowiak Jr.; daughter, Christie (Bill) Nagy; grandchildren, William and Joshua Nagy; granddaughters, Madison and Sophie Wachowiak; and dearest friends, Larry Witt and Norm Ostrowski, survive him.
