Maymie Florence Atkinson Death, Obituary – On May 22, 2023, Maymie Florence Atkinson, 95, passed away in Perry, Oklahoma. On March 9, 1928, Maymie was born in Perry to Wilson and Minniola Atkinson. She spent her entire life in Perry after graduating from Blain High School in 1949. Her siblings Yvonne Vester of Oklahoma City, Theodore Atkinson of Oakland, California, and Frank Atkinson of Edmond, Oklahoma, as well as her daughters Doreen Stewart of Dallas, Texas, and Eli Atkinson of Perry, survive her.
She had a large number of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, as well as 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. Her father, mother, brother Wilson, sisters Corinne, Evelyn, Edna, Anna, and Dorothy all predeceased her. On Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., there will be funeral services at. She graduated in 1949 from Blaine Public Schools. From Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, Maymie earned an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development in 1977.
Maymie put a lot of effort into her profession, beginning as a nanny and maid in Wichita, Kansas, continuing as a childcare provider at Tetik’s Daycare, Perry Head Start, and Early Head Start in Perry, Oklahoma, and serving food to OSU students in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Everybody admired her and respected her wherever she worked. Maymie was a devoted follower of the Mt. Olive A.M.E. She served in a variety of capacities as the Mother of the Church.
The Usher Board, Missionary Board, Stewardess, Sunday School Director, YPD President, and Choir Director were a few of those jobs. Maymie belonged to The Eastern Star as well. Wilson and Minniola Atkinson Sr., her parents, two sons, Jonathan Irby and Elijah Atkinson, one brother, Wilson Atkinson, and four sisters, Corrine Doxey, Edna Mae Williams, Evelyn Hoy, Anna Pearl Vester, and Dorothy Robinson all predeceased Maymie.
She left behind a daughter, Doreen Stewart of Dallas, Texas, a son, Eli Atkinson of Perry, Oklahoma, two brothers, Theodore and Frank Atkinson (all of Edmond, Oklahoma), and a sister, Yvonne Vester of Edmond, Oklahoma. Maymie had eight grandchildren, including Adriona Irby-Knight (Henry) of San Antonio, Texas; Jonasena Crawford (Mario) of Wichita, Kansas; Chauncy Stewart of Davis, Oklahoma.
Brandon Irby of San Antonio, Texas; Markyshia Atkinson of Perry, Oklahoma; Jillian Irby of San Antonio, Texas; Darius Atkinson of Perry, Oklahoma; and Elisha Atkinson of Perry, Oklahoma. Numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and acquaintances, including 15 great grandchildren, 2 12 great grandchildren, and a large number of them.
She cherished spending time with her family, going on vacation, crocheting, doing puzzles, using her tablet to play games, fishing, and taking care of her plants.
