Werner, who at the age of 93 entered eternal life on February 10, 2023, in the name of our trust in the Resurrection of Jesus. Father Werner was born on April 12, 1929, to George and Adelaide (Mayer) Werner in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Kenosha, St. Catherine High School in Racine, and St. Norbert Junior College in De Pere. After that, he attended St. Francis Seminary and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Theology.

He was consecrated on May 31, 1958, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay by Bishop Stanislaus V. Bona. As Associate Pastor of St. Augustine Parish in Wausaukee, Father Werner’s first clerical position was held. After three months, he was given the one-year position of Associate Pastor at St. Matthew Parish in Green Bay. After that, he was given a six-year appointment as associate pastor at St. Margaret Mary Parish in Neenah. He was appointed as the two-year associate pastor of Holy Cross Parish in Kaukauna in 1965. The following year, he was appointed as the St. James Parish, White Lake, Temporary Administrator with a mission in Langlade. After that, he was given a one-year appointment as associate pastor at St. Agnes Parish in Green Bay. He was a teacher at St. Francis Xavier High School in 1968.
