Jerry Lee Sexton Death, Obituary – At the age of 76, Jerry Lee Sexton, who resided in Marion, passed away at Mission McDowell Hospital on the 10th of June, 2023. On July 28, 1946, Jerry was born in Buncombe County, North Carolina, to his late parents, Kenneth Hugh Sexton and Geneva Payne Sexton. Both of Jerry’s parents have now passed away. Jerry had been married to his wife, Phyllis Ann Plemmons Sexton, for the previous four decades.
He was a devout follower of the Baptist religion and an active participant in the Marion Moose Lodge for many years. Jerry was a keen bowler and also played softball professionally for Pepsi and Shoney’s. He was a passionate rider of Harley Davidson motorbikes and horses, and he enjoyed both activities immensely. He had a lot of fun competing in shows in Tennessee with his walking horse.
Jerry was a skilled technician who also had a passion for adventure. He frequently used his boat to get to Lake James and the nearby beach. He was well liked by many people, and their hearts will be broken by his passing. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, as well as a brother, Kenneth Hugh Sexton, Jr., and a sister, Ann Taylor. His grandparents also passed away before him.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Sexton; his children, Andy Sexton and Michelle Drake (both of whom are married to other people); his stepchildren, Keith Jones and Chad Jones (both of whom are married to other people); seven grandchildren; and one great grandson.
A funeral service will be held on the Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service at two o’clock in the afternoon. The service will be presided over by Reverend Larry Carver. The subsequent event will take place in the Candler location of the Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Before the funeral service, the family will host a visitation at the funeral home from one in the afternoon until two in the afternoon.
