Jean Nishi Obituary, Death – JEAN HARUE NISHI On April 8, 2023, our Nishi Ohana learned of the demise of our cherished mother, grandmother, and wife, Jean Harue Nishi. This news has left us in a state of profound grief. Jean bravely fought the abrupt onset of her ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) disease with a ferocious resolve to try to overcome unfathomable odds, but unfortunately, she was unable to do so and ultimately passed away as a result of ALS complications.
Over the course of more than 38 years, Jean enthusiastically instructed students in a variety of disciplines at Nanakuli High and Middle School. She thoroughly enjoyed her time there. In her previous role as Student Activities Coordinator at Nanakuli High School, Jean was responsible for organizing a large number of activities that were attended by members of the Leeward community. She held a “West Side” neighborhood “West Side” affectionately in her heart. In 2018, Jean decided to retire in order to care for her aging parents.
Jean, who was known as “God’s Angel on Earth,” will be remembered for all time for her vivacious nature, captivating personality, and love and generosity that were unconditional for anybody that she befriended. Jean was incredibly pleased that she was able to bring up her wonderful and cherished children, Kyle, Kurt, and Kori, despite the fact that she had thoroughly enjoyed her years spent working in education. During their early years, Jean enjoyed spending time in the Aiea Community participating in a variety of extracurricular activities, including numerous sports teams, as well as other school-related and community-based pursuits.
Even though her three grandchildren lived on the mainland, she cherished the time she got to spend seeing them mature and succeed in their academic pursuits as well as the extracurricular activities they participated in. Her husband, Tom, her sons Kyle and Kurt (and their wives Brittany and Jon), her daughter Kori (and her spouse Jon), and her grandsons Keido, Kamden, and Kenji survive her. Audrey, Irene, Lynne, and Lori are our four sisters. A celebration of Jean’s life will be celebrated on June 17, 2023 at Nuuanu Memorial Park and Mortuary.
Jean’s parents, Katsumi and Mary HIraki, passed away before she was born. Visitation will begin at 10 am, and the service will begin at 11 am. Casual Aloha Attire. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the ALS Association Golden West Chapter, which can be sent to the following address: P.O. Box 11284, Honolulu, Hawaii 96828. Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary LLC is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
