Eleanor Anne Hensley Death, Obituary – Eleanor Anne Gross Hensley, 94, of Chattaroy, died quietly on May 26, 2023. She was born in Cinderella, West Virginia on January 20, 1929 to the late R.B. and Virginia Gross. She graduated from Williamson High School in 1946 and worked as a secretary, including medical records at Williamson Memorial Hospital.
On September 7, 1950, she married Warren Hensley and became a loving, hardworking, active housewife and mother to her three children. She was a long-time member of the Williamson First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Usher as well as a member of the Ladies Circle. Eleanor spent her retirement years being a devoted and adoring grandmother to her grandchildren, whom she adored.
She loved going out to eat, going shopping, playing Scrabble and Bridge, listening to music, watching movies, and just spending time with her family. Eleanor participated in games, exercises, and social events at the senior center while volunteering at the Appalachian Regional Hospital. She was fortunate to spend her last days with her youngest daughter Jan and son-in-law Stephen at their house, where she delighted in bird watching, relaxing in the peace of the outdoors, working on puzzles in the sun, and being surrounded by her loving pets and grandchildren.
Warren Hensley, Eleanor’s loyal husband, her parents R.B. and Virginia Gross, and her brothers John and Roger Gross all passed away before her. Her family will miss her terribly and will find comfort and solace in God’s gift of eternal life.
Visitation will be held at Weaver Mortuary in West Williamson on Friday, June 2, 2023, from 12 to 1:00 PM. The visitation will be followed promptly by the funeral service.
