The Iowa National Guard has confirmed that SFC Corey Hite was struck by a car when he was out for a run. According to a GoFundMe page set up for his family’s benefit, he had injuries that put his life in danger, including swelling in his brain, multiple fractures to his skull, a fractured pelvis, and holes in his lung and kidney.
According to another post, Hite was only three weeks away from retiring when the accident occurred. According to the most recent post on his Caring Bridge page, Hite passed away on Sunday.
