Carla Seiler Obituary, Death – Carl Woodrow and Sara May (Latta) Peterson Sr.’s second child, Carla Kay (Peterson) Seiler, was born on October 15, 1949. On May 25, 2023, at the age of 73, she passed away in her home in Madrid, Iowa. She will be buried at Mount Hope Cemetery with her cremated remains. Although she was reared and spent her entire life in Madrid, she was born in Des Moines, Iowa. She served as a class officer and graduated from Madrid High School in 1967. She assisted in planning numerous class reunions over the years and always relished seeing everyone again.
The Monday following her high school graduation, Carla started working at Bankers Life Co. (Principal Financial Group). She stayed for 38 years, working in various roles as the business and its industry evolved. She extended her education by taking LOMA and courses for on-the-job training. She was employed as a Senior Project Manager/Business Systems at the time of her retirement.
She wed Russell LeRoy Seiler on September 6, 1969; they were married for 53 years. Susan Lynn (Seiler) Robinett and Christopher William Seiler were their two children. They spent their free time visiting her brother Carl’s family at their cabin in Arkansas and then on vacation in Okoboji. Carla and Russ relocated from town into the house they designed and constructed with assistance from Carla’s brother Gary.
Carla has served for a variety of organizations throughout her life, including the Madrid Historical Society (former board member and treasurer), the Madrid Booster Club, the VFW Auxiliary, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, and Madrid Community Chest. She always found the time to lend a hand to her friends and family.
Carla had a wide range of interests and pastimes. Over the years, she spent time knitting, baking, observing birds, reading mysteries, and caring for her pets. She enjoyed maintaining the lawn and growing flowers in the warmer months. She rarely declined an invitation to go to the casino with her sister-in-law Donna or to go out to lunch with relatives or friends. She loved playing Yahtzee, Bingo Bash, and sudoku. The evening of family supper was made much more memorable with Cora, her granddaughter, was added. Bubbles were their favorite shared activity.
Those who loved Carla will feel a void in their hearts as a result of her passing. Russell, her husband, Susan (Walker) Robinett, Christopher Seiler, and Cora Seiler, all residents of Madrid, are her surviving family members. She also has many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including her sister-in-law Carole Peterson of Arkansas, her brother Ronald Peterson of Texas, Gary (Donna Fischer) Peterson of Iowa, and many others. Her parents and older brother Carl Peterson Jr. preceded her in death. Please donate to the Madrid Community Endowment Fund, Foundation for the Boone Area Humane Society, or the Madrid Historical Society in lieu of sending floral tributes.
