Calvin Elliott Obituary, of Russell Springs Calvin Elliott Has Reportedly Died

Calvin Elliott Obituary – At the Russell County Hospital on Saturday, June 10, 2023, Calvin Elliott Humble, who once resided in Russell Springs, passed away. He had reached the age of 83. On January 12, 1940, Calvin Humble, the son of the late John E. and Vonnie Lee Popplewell Humble, was born at the home the family had shared in the Esto Community in Russell County. He was brought up on the farm his family owned, where he learnt at an early age the importance of keeping himself busy and putting in hard labor. Calvin had served in the Army of the United States. On May 8, 1965, he tied the knot with Janet Jasper.

Calvin’s upbringing of being a hard worker would carry over into his adult life. Calvin worked as a barber for Stanley Wells for a number of years before to founding his own shop, which he owned and operated for more than four decades. When Hopper Drug first opened its doors in the community, Calvin, after putting in a full day of labor for Stanley, went home, changed clothes, and then used a wheelbarrow to lay concrete walkways for the new drugstore. In addition to raising his own meat and poultry, Calvin also cultivated a garden and preserved the harvest.

He had his own cows, so he could get fresh milk from them, and he fished and hunted to ensure there was always food on the table. Calvin would begin his days well before sunrise, and he would often continue working far into the night. His relatives believe that he was the hardest working man they had ever seen in their lives.

He is survived by his wife, Janet, his son Ricky Humble and his wife Eve, his brother Avery D. Humble and his sister Margaret Gosser, his granddaughter Jessica Litton and her husband Zack, his great-grandson Elliot Harris, and a large number of nieces and nephews.

Calvin was predeceased by his son, Clint Humble; his brothers, John Bland Humble, Billy Dean Humble, and James Earl Humble; and his sisters, Eudora Cooper and Nannie Lou Brockman. In addition to his parents, Calvin was also preceded in death by his son.

On Monday, June 12, 2023, at nine o’clock in the morning, graveside services will be place in the Russell Springs City Cemetery, with Bro. Billy Dunbar serving as the officiant.
