Ava Patete Obituary, Death – Ava Patete MBTA Train Accident – Police Chief Timothy Hanlon and Fire Chief Timothy Clancy say that the Whitman Police Department and the Whitman Fire Department responded to a train accident last night that killed a pedestrian. At about 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, MBTA Transit Police told Whitman Police about a crash in Whitman involving a southbound train that may have hit a person walking on the tracks.
Police and fire crews from Whitman went to the scene. The victim, a young girl, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. On the scene were also detectives from the Massachusetts State Police, the MBTA Transit Police, the Hanson Police Department, the East Bridgewater Police Department, and the Whitman Department of Public Works.
While the identity of the deceased is being withheld by authorities, evidence suggests that Ava Patete was the victim of the accident. Superintendent Jeffrey Szymaniak announced this morning that a Whitman-Hanson Regional High School student passed away unexpectedly Tuesday night.
“We are all tremendously saddened to hear of this tragic loss. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of this student and all those who knew them,” Superintendent Szymaniak said. “We also extend our condolences to our friends at East Bridgewater High School, who were also affected by this tragedy.” The crash is under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and MBTA Transit Police.
